Say Yes, to oil serums.....

Updated: Aug 1, 2021

You read that right. Oil, on your face.

You know that it’s totally okay (and usually beneficial) to use certain oils on your face, right? Contrary to popular belief, oil-based skin products won’t necessarily make your skin more oily or lead to increased breakouts! So many facial products that claim to “reduce shine” or treat acne actually irritate the skin by stripping it of its natural oils. When skin is overly dry, it overcompensates by producing excess sebum.

Cleansing with astringent cleansers often leads to excessive dryness, further breakouts as the skin produces more oil to compensate, and the removal of the protective barrier that your skin naturally tries to maintain. This natural barrier helps to buffer the skin against wind, cold, and other environmental stressors. This natural barrier also helps to soften and lubricate the skin which in turn helps keep wrinkles and fine lines at bay.

So why is putting oil on your face so good for it?

Nature provides a number of plants whose oils closely resemble the sebum of our skin. A few examples of these are jojoba, macadamia, sunflower, sesame and evening primrose. These oils absorb quickly and easily into our skin and leave a breathable layer of moisture and protection. Each natural oil comes with built-in vitamins and actives that provide a host of anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, and restorative benefits to the skin. When used as a cleanser plant oils dissolve dirt, makeup residue, and prevent the build-up of oil and bacteria that can reside deep in our pores.

There’s already so much to think about in your skin care routine: cleansing, toning, moisturizing. Why add one more step? Well, in the same way you might take a multivitamin to make sure your body is getting what it needs, a serum is there to make sure your skin is being nourished.

We formulate each serum for hydrating, restorative, purifying or calming properties. Not sure which serum is best for you?

Calm - Evening primrose, grapeseed oil, flax seed, chamomile oil, lavender and geranium essential oils.

Purifying - Jojoba, Macadamia and Neem Oil, lavender, tea tree, rosemary and palmarosa essential oils.

Hydrating - Apricot seed oil, Avocado oil and sunflower oil, frankincense, lavender and geranium essential oils.

Superfood Elixir - Sunflower, Hemp, Evening Primrose, Avocado, Jojoba, Argan, Rosehip and Baobab oils, Frankincense and Geranium essential oils.

THE HOW-TO

Warm 3-4 drops in your hands and massage onto clean, toned face and neck before moisturizing, in the morning or before bed.

PERIOD OF ADJUSTMENT

Most people love our serum right away, but if you find you’re having some issues it can take up to two weeks for your skin to adjust to a new product.

Make the most of your serum.

  • Use after exfoliating with our Apricot Facial Scrub so your skin will be primed to absorb even more goodness.

  • A spritz of toner before applying your serum will help lock in extra moisture.
